A very large breast creates intense problems every day for the woman. Women with large breasts complain of back and neck pain, dermatitis in the submammary region, reduced socializing and reduced ability to exercise. Also in a large breast it is difficult to detect lesions on clinical examination and imaging on mammography. At the same time as breast reduction, a breast lift is performed to achieve an aesthetically pleasing result.
Application/Action
The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia and patients usually leave the clinic the same day. The length of the incisions depends on the size of the breast and its droop. The most common method of breast reduction involves three incisions. One incision around the nipple, one perpendicular from the nipple to the inframammary fold, and a third horizontal to the inframammary fold. So by removing a portion of the mass gland and skin (which is sent for histological examination) and moving the nipple and areola higher up, we create a smaller and nicer breast.
Return to everyday life
Postoperatively the patient wears a special sports bra for 1 month. The pain is mild and is treated with mild painkillers. There is usually a small drain (tube) to remove the fluid that collects postoperatively, which is removed after the first 24 hours. The stitches are absorbable and do not need to be removed.
