Otoplasty

The goal of otoplasty is to correct any congenital or acquired deformity in the anatomy of the ears. It is a cosmetic surgery that addresses imperfections in the shape, position, and overall structure of the ear. Such deformities do not affect hearing, but they can have a significant psychological impact. Common ear deformities such as protruding ears (prominent ears), large ears (macrotia), cupped or deformed ears, small or underdeveloped ears (microtia) are usually identified immediately after birth, with the ear’s shape becoming definitive by the age of approximately six. Therefore, otoplasty can be performed from the age of 6 and onward.

Application/Action

The surgery is performed under local anesthesia or sedation. The surgeon, drawing on experience, selects the appropriate technique based on the individual’s case. This may include: Repositioning protruding ears closer to the head Reducing the size of overly large ears Correcting congenital deformities Repairing acquired/traumatic injuries, such as a split earlobe caused by sudden pulling of an earring Restoring symmetry between the two ears in terms of shape and size

Return to everyday life

The procedure lasts between 1 to 3 hours, depending on the complexity of the case. Postoperatively, a soft elastic bandage is applied around the head to support faster healing and to maintain the desired result. This is typically worn for about one week. Mild swelling or bruising may occur but subsides quickly, and patients can usually return to their daily routine within a week. The results are permanent!
